For 2012 we have available a limited number of three to five day Bear Viewing Opportunities in Katmai National Preserve during the month of August. We are offering two options for Bear Viewing and Bear Photography, each one catering to your individual needs. Our first, and most popular package is our Float and Camp option. We spend the trip where the bears live during this time frame, along the water corridor in pursuit of the Alaskan Sockeye Salmon upon which they depend to see them through a long Winter in their dens. With this package you will be exposed to a higher amount and variety of Bear Activity, and thus be afforded more opportunities to experience Alaskan Coastal Brown Bears in their environment, whilst living amongst them. We will be rafting the river the Bears are living on, camping each night on the beaches they call home. This is by far our most Hands On Bear Viewing Experience, if you want to see Brown Bears teaching their cubs to fish, or observe the social interactions of high concentrations of Bears in a relatively small creek, this is the trip for you. Our second option is our Base Camp Viewing Package. With this option we will spend the entire trip in one location and spend our days hiking and viewing bears generally at a greater distance and in the same general area. The viewing opportunities are still amazing, however the variety and distance in which we will see the bears will be greatly diminished. With this package we will be limited to a defined area, and as such will get to observe a select few bears on essentially a daily basis. This has appeal for some as it provides them an opportunity to see how certain bears behave over a 3 to 5 day period of time, and to be able to identify the Bears on an individual basis. This trip is a bit more strenuous as we will be spending a good portion of our day hiking along the tundra and thickets as we attempt to gain both a safe, and advantageous view of the bears in the area. Whatever option appeals to you, we will endeavor to insure that you have the Bear Viewing and Photography Experience you desire, with Safety, Comfort, Professionalism, Environmental Stewardship, and Respect being, as always, our foremost concerns. We hope to see you in Camp in 2012.
